"King Edward Memorial Hospital / Family Birth Centre"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Family Birth Centre

(as the patient),

My husband and I welcomed our baby girl in April through the Family Birth Centre, and I wanted to express how grateful we are for the care we received throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

I was allocated Mimi as my primary midwife, and from our very first appointment we felt incredibly supported. Mimi is so knowledgeable, passionate, and genuine in the care she provides. She always took the time to explain everything thoroughly, answer every question we had, and provide additional resources that helped us feel informed and confident throughout the pregnancy. Nothing ever felt rushed, and we always felt listened to and respected.

One of the things we appreciated about the FBC model was the continuity of care. Both when Mimi, my assigned midwife was on days off or on leave, and when my labour required transfer from the Birth Centre to the main hospital due to high blood pressure, the quality of care and support never changed. Courtney was with me when I arrived at the Birth Centre and for majority of my labour. She explained everything in detail to help me make each decision as required, and made me feel calm and comfortable throughout my labour.

Sarah then cared for me during the end of my labour and the birth of our daughter, and she was wonderful. Calm, reassuring, encouraging, and explaining everything in so much detail for my husband and I.

Despite not being in the Birth Centre, I still felt safe, supported, and advocated for the entire time because of the incredible midwives caring for us.

After the birth, the care continued at home with home visits from Courtney, Janelle and Mimi. It was great having such kind, and supportive people during the early days adjusting to life with a newborn.

We truly could not have asked for a better experience. Thank you to Mimi, Courtney, Sarah and Janelle for making such an important time in our lives such a positive experience. We are incredibly grateful and would not hesitate to recommend the KEMH FBC to other families.

Hopefully we will be back again in the future. ☺️

Dear uniformhg99,

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter, and thank you so much for sharing your kind words of appreciation for the care you received at the Family Birth Centre (FBC) and King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH).

It was wonderful to read that your primary midwife Mimi kept you well informed and took the time to talk through any questions or concerns you or your husband had along your pregnancy journey. Although Mimi was not there for your labour, I’m so pleased to hear that Courtney and Sarah were there to explain everything in detail, ensuring you had all the information to make informed decisions, and that you felt supported all the way through to your home visits. It will give me great pleasure to share your kind words with Mimi, Sarah, Courtney, Janelle and the wider FBC team.

Wishing you and your family all the best.

Kind regards,
Delaney
