"Healing experience with the King Edward Family Birth Centre"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Family Birth Centre

(as a service user),

When I found out I was pregnant with my third baby, I knew that I wanted a different kind of birth experience. Living in the South West meant that choosing the King Edward Family Birth Centre wasn’t necessarily the easiest option logistically. I travelled to Perth for my appointments, but from the very beginning, I knew it was worth it.

My experience at the Family Birth Centre was nothing short of phenomenal. From my very first appointments, I felt genuinely listened to, respected and supported. I never felt like I was just another patient moving through a system. I felt like a person, a mother and an active participant in my own care.

My midwife, Gabby, was incredible. She built such a strong sense of trust and safety with me throughout my pregnancy. She listened to what I wanted, answered my questions without judgement and supported me to make informed decisions about my care. I always felt that my voice mattered.

When it came time to welcome my baby into the world, I felt safe, as well as confident. Most importantly, I felt that I was surrounded by a team who trusted me and trusted my body.

The environment at the Family Birth Centre made such a difference. There was a sense of calm, warmth and respect that allowed me to feel like I could truly birth my baby rather than simply have a birth happen to me.

My baby's birth was such a powerful and beautiful experience, and I genuinely believe the care I received played a huge part in that.

As someone who travelled from the South West for this care, I can honestly say that I would make the journey again in a heartbeat. The distance was completely worth it.

I cannot speak highly enough of the King Edward Family Birth Centre, and particularly of Gabby. The care I received has stayed with me, and I am incredibly grateful that I had the opportunity to welcome my daughter into the world in such a supportive, respectful and empowering environment.

Based on my experience I would wholeheartedly recommend the Family Birth Centre to anyone considering where to have their baby. It gave me an experience I will remember for the rest of my life.

Thank you to Gabby and the entire team for helping make the birth of my baby such a special experience. 🩷

Dear normaex85,

Congratulations on the birth of your baby and thank you for taking the time to share about your beautiful pregnancy and birth journey.

Making the decision to birth so far from home is not an easy one to make, and I was really pleased to hear how positive your Family Birth Centre (FBC) experience was. I loved reading that, with Gabby’s support and knowledge, you felt so calm and confident during labour. Your birth sounds like such an empowering experience!

The fact you would recommend the FBC speaks volumes – we will be very happy to share your feedback with Gabby and the wider FBC team to highlight the positive difference they are making in family’s lives.

Best wishes,

Delaney
