"Unbelievable level of care through FBC and broader KEMH"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Family Birth Centre

(as the patient),

I was lucky enough to receive care during my pregnancy, birth and postpartum through the FBC.

The whole experience was incredibly positive and better than I could have wished for. My daughter and I were taken such good of, and I am overwhelmed by the professionalism, knowledge, genuine care and tailored support I received.

My primary midwife was Sarah, who is fantastic- she was incredibly supportive, diligent and thorough in her care, and always left me feeling so reassured and confident. I could not have asked for a better midwife. The only downside of the continuity of care model I received through FBC is that I got used to seeing Sarah regularly, and miss her now that my baby has been born!

Sarah’s back to back midwife Viv looked after me during the birth of my daughter and the first few days postpartum. Viv is really warm and quick to smile and laugh, and she made me feel so comfortable and safe in her care. Viv’s guidance and skill during my delivery made the process really smooth and resulted in a dream water birth with no tearing or other issues.

Courtney, the second midwife at my birth, also had a lovely presence and was so encouraging and supportive right when I needed to hear it!

Overall, my experience of the FBC has been that the service has far exceeded my expectations again and again. The midwives all have me so much of their time and support throughout my pregnancy and first week postpartum. They have also been very proactive in helping me with latching issues, which has helped immensely.

I am so grateful that I got to access this service for my first pregnancy and birth, and would absolutely recommend it to anyone else.

Dear januarytk89,

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter and thank you for taking the time to provide us with such wonderful feedback.

I am so pleased to read that your experience with our Family Birth Centre (FBC) led to such positive outcomes and met all of your needs and expectations. It is clear from your story how much Sarah’s support and diligence meant to you, and the ways in which the continuity of care you received supported you during your transition into parenthood, including overcoming the issues you experienced with latching.

We’ll be sure to pass on your kind words to Sarah as well as her back to back midwife Viv and second midwife Courtney.

Thank you again for taking the time to share about your experience. Wishing you and your daughter all the very best.

Kirstie
