Very big thank you’s to the staff at Jurien Bay Health Centre Centre, especially Kylie. Since January my husband was fighting cancer and being regional limited care services are available between treatments etc.
On all of the occasions that we presented and he was admitted into the care of the nurses, Kylie went above and beyond treating him with the utmost care and compassion, all of the other nurses on duty included. Instead of having him transported to Perth via ambulance on a couple of occasions she noted drastic changes in his state of health and saw he was declining and lost no time in updating the emergency services and requested RFDS to head to Jurien for transport instead. And lucky she did as one time he was lucky to be alive on arrival in Perth.
My husband recently lost his battle and was at home when he passed. Kylie was rostered on that evening along with Robyn, I called the centre just to advise that he would be taken there from the ambulance until the coroners could come and transport him to perth within the following days. She was very compassionate over the phone and I trusted she was going to take great privilege in having him there one last time and that gave me great comfort.
My son and I ended up going to the centre after we were done with emergency services at home (we just felt we needed to sit there with him for a while to gather our thoughts) we were treated with open arms and tears and then a cup of tea and some company, which made us feel less alone in our desperate time of need. Kylie was also there when he departed the centre which I felt was the best omen as she had been there throughout his journey literally in sickness and health.
Living in a small town it is absolutely amazing and reassuring that we have amazing nurses like her working and supporting not only the patient but the family too. I’m not taking anything away from the rest of the team but Kylie in particular 100% went above and beyond and still does by checking in on myself and the kids to make sure we are ok and to make sure we understand the services available to our family. Definitely one of the best assets to be working within our beautiful communities.
