Recently noticed a sudden floating and strange dark thing in my eye. Overnight, experienced bright flashing /balls of extremely bright light bit like lightening flashes. Presented at Broome hospital early morning just to check... Was processed quickly and Doctor rang specialist in Perth. Returned with letter & advised to have retina scan via Optometrist in town as hospital didn't have the machine. Dean at OPSM @ Boulevard Shop Centre saw me immediately and advised a problem. He promptly contacted specialist in Perth & hospital and it was decided to fly me to Perth immediately for laser procedure to repair a "retina tear/hole" or retina detachment I believe. The PATS office at hospital rushed it through and I was booked on a flight 4 & half hrs later! Follow up from OPSM to check and after procedure when I was concerned with issues was top notch!

Thank you for finding the time to share your experience with us on Patient Opinion concerning your recent eye problem.

I was extremely pleased to read how the hospital worked in with the community to have your eye photography completed, the successful liaison with the Perth specialist and the quick arrangements and response from PATS. It’s always rewarding when it all comes together!

Having a detached/torn retina is a serious problem. I am pleased it all went smoothly and thank you again for your response. I will personally ensure all involved receive your kind words.

I hope you are making a quick recovery and the only lightening you see in the future will be in the wet season!
