Recently my friend was admitted for an MRI. Being extremely nervous about the MRI I accompanied them while being prepped and waiting for about 3.5 hours at the Day Ward. Many people, as per protocol, assisted my friend. However, hospital surroundings are not for people who find it hard to cope and become stressful. It was at this juncture that Marina the nurse was most helpful. She had a pleasant smile (which I have found is unfortunately usually not part of the make-up of the nurses I have seen before) and was able to calm nerves. Marina then handed my friend's case over to Naomi who was very professional and understanding of my friend's discomfort. Rozanne was another staff member who assisted in helping out and easing the stress. What is most remarkable is the fact that a simple smile, a caring demeanour and a professional attitude goes a very long way in assisting patients to feel at ease at their most vulnerable moments. May I take this opportunity to thank the trio of helpers and hope our combined gratitude can be conveyed to them.
