"Defibrillator replacement"

About: Box Hill Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

I recently had my defibrillator replaced at Box Hill Hospital.

My first one lasted quite a few years. Before having it put in, I almost lost my life; the specialist gave me two hours at Maroondah Hospital. I had about 75 people in the waiting room, coming in units of two at a time. Once I was in Box Hill Hospital I underwent tests. I had 7 heart attacks in one day. Eventually, they implanted the defibrillator and underwent therapy planning, etc. I would like to say that I am extremely grateful to the staff and doctors who followed my path. They did an amazing job.

Having my defibrillator replaced, I was a little apprehensive at first but the nursing staff were excellent at reassuring me that it would be okay. They explained that the operation would take 20 minutes and the recovery would be most of the day as they would need to give me two lots of antibiotics to ensure no infection would set in. After the operation, they gave me sandwiches, orange juice and a cup of coffee. I was very impressed with the surgeon and the nursing staff. I have been there many times for a kidney removal, stroke and heart attacks. That was over a period of 5 years and in and out for various appointments. I am still able to spend time with my grandkids, do my photography, as I graduated as a freelancer while I was in the midst of the treatment. I would personally like to thank the surgeons, doctors, nurses, kitchen staff and cleaners for their love and genuine care for myself and what I'm sure they extend to all the other patients. Nurses do so much for people, I've seen it first hand. I believe some patients are very unreasonable at times, I assure you. Nurses have the same problems as everyone else on the outside so have patience with them and show compassion. They deserve it. They are people. My wife, children, and grandchildren thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Dear uniformwg74

Thank you so very much for taking the time to provide your feedback - you've had an incredible journey that I'm sure caused you and your family a lot of stress and worry.

I was so pleased to hear that not only have you been accessing the services at Eastern Health and Box Hill Hospital over 5 years, but on this occasion the cardiology team, being the doctors and nurses, plus also the cleaning and catering staff made your experience as positive as possible.

It will give me great pleasure to share your feedback with them.

I trust you are well on the road to recovery and you're in the very best of health.

Many thanks again and kind regards

David
