"Sleep study follow up"

About: Cardio Respiratory Sleep Specialists in the Stirling Electoral District

(as the patient),

I have excessive daytime tiredness and was referred to a fatigue specialist, who I saw in earlier this year. A number of diagnostic tests were conducted, one of which was a home-based sleep study. As a result of this study, I was referred to a specialist at Cardio Respiratory Sleep (CRS). I had an initial consult and then my specialist referred me for an inpatient sleep study. There was a long wait list but I managed to get a cancellation appointment in recently, which I attended. I expected to be contacted by the specialist's rooms for a follow-up appointment, but I still hadn’t heard anything after three weeks. I called CRS, and was told that my report had been finalised, the specialist had reviewed it but they hadn’t left any instructions to book me for a follow-up. I was advised to contact the hospital department that had conducted the study, and request that the report be sent to my GP so I could get the results that way. I did so, and was told that clinic policy was to send reports to the referring doctor only. I then called CRS back and was put through to a different person. They were confused as to why I was told to request the report be sent to my GP, and said that I needed to see my referring doctor. They also seemed confused as to who that doctor was, and kept referring to my previous home-based sleep study rather than the hospital-based one. They argued with me for some time about which doctor I needed to see before I eventually requested that they just book me in to see the original specialist. The next available appointment isn’t until the end of October, a many months after the study. I understand that there can be long wait lists to see specialists, but I was very upset that the people at CRS didn’t seem to know what to do with me, and different staff had different ideas about their procedures. I also think that almost half a year is a ridiculously long time to wait for a follow-up appointment, considering I didn’t even wait that long for my initial consultation.
