"Coral Bay Nursing Post"

About: Coral Bay Nursing Post

(as a parent/guardian),

Our toddler had severe gastro and couldn't keep fluids down. We were 3 hrs away from a regional hospital. Our toddler's blood pressure and sugars were low and was vomiting blood. The nursing post was overrun with cases from drownings, quad bike accident to heart attacks. The volunteer ambos were out of hours to drive us anywhere and so was Carnarvon side. RFDS (Royal Flying Doctor's Service) couldn't get a plane to us. The 2 amazing nurses, Jan and Rach, had limited supplies, but were able to get a drip and a nasal tube into bub and turned back others with gashes to prioritise our baby until RFDS became available.  Their skill and resourcefulness with meager resources and no backup was amazing. They went above and beyond what anyone would expect to make sure we were safe. The fact there is not a doctor based there during busy times, I believe is unfathomable. Coral Bay swells to the size of a small town, but even the dirt airstrip has to be lit up with solar flares and kangaroos moved off to allow a plane to land safely. In my opinion, more resources need to be directed to this popular holiday destination. I can't thank Jan and Rach enough.

Dear dancedd95

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Patient Opinion. I was so pleased to read of the excellent care your child received from the team at Coral Bay. As a mother myself I know how stressful it can be when your child is unwell and I was so pleased to read our dedicated staff provided high quality care to your little one. I will take great pleasure in passing your thanks on to Jan and Rach as I know they will really appreciate it.

Coral Bay has access to Emergency Telehealth Service (ETS) which is a wonderful service that uses videoconferencing equipment to connect local doctors and nurses with highly trained, emergency medicine specialists. The emergency medicine specialist is linked via video conference, providing guidance to the local treating team and it is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A consultation with an ETS doctor is just like any other ‘in person’ consultation and allows us to provide high quality specialist care close to home.

Just to let you know also WA Country Health Service is currently undertaking a recruitment process for a Nurse Practitioner to join the team at Coral Bay.

Thanks again for taking the time to write and I hope that your little one is well and truly on the mend.

Kind regards

Michele
