"My parent's broken arm"

About: Maroondah Hospital

(as a relative),

My parent was admitted to Maroondah Hospital with a broken arm.  My parent was then released about 2 weeks later into a nursing home with their upper arm still broken to such a degree that anyone I show the picture of the x-ray to to this day is in utter shock.  In the x-ray, it looks like one of the bones is trying to poke out of my parent's skin and my parent had such a contusion that their arm is twice the size and black and blue.  When my parent got to the nursing home, they were appalled at the condition of the arm and requested my parent be sent back to the hospital.  We decided not to send my parent back to Maroondah Hospital, so sent they to Dandenong Hospital instead.  They promptly operated after 16 days of agony at Maroondah Hospital for my poor parent.

In my opinion, their care was negligent to say the least!

Dear llll

I was very concerned to read your story on Patient Opinion and would like to apologise for the experience for both your parent and for you at Maroondah Hospital.

Could I please ask if you can make contact with the Eastern Health Centre for Patient Experience on 1800 EASTERN or feedback@easternhealth.org.au so we can undertake a full investigation of the care of your parent.

Once again, I am sorry that your experience was not a positive one. We take feedback such as yours very seriously so I hope we hear from you soon

Regards,

Gayle Smith
