I recently had an overnight stay in Kalgoorlie Hospital I was required to prep for a procedure next day. All good until I woke at 4am realising that I was supposed to have started my prep an hour earlier! I buzzed and when the Nurse came she said didn’t matter just do what I was supposed to and halve the time (1 hour instead of 2) no apology for not waking me! I then attempted to consume 2 litres in less than an hour which resulted in me vomiting and losing everything. Nurse just stated - oh forget about the rest, I’ll just tell them you were sick!
How important was this? Did the delay get documented? Did this Nurse have the patient's best interests in mind? I don’t know the answers to these questions, but my concern is how does this staff member treat other patients and is patient care being compromised by what I believe is this individuals complacency?
Sad that this one staff members behaviour, overshadowed all of the other amazingly professional and caring staff on this ward.
"Complacency is there a place for this in our hospitals?"
