"Security going above and beyond"

About: Protea Lodge

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Protea Lodge had issue with Unit automatic doors not locking, reported by an occupant.

Security was alerted. Frank, met with the occupant, and she was very impressed how he went 'above and beyond to reassure her that he would be doing several rounds and keeping an eye out while on duty for any security issues. He assured her that he would do a thorough handover to the next security person on duty who would also do same.

Occupant felt very reassured that she would be safe.

Dear earthgn35

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Patient Opinion. Firstly, I would like to apologise that you experienced difficulties with the door not locking during your stay at Protea Lodge. I have been advised by the Operations Manager Geraldton Hospital, that this has been identified as a problem and the team are working to resolve the issue.

Protea Lodge, a cancer hostel located on the Geraldton Health Campus, is a welcome addition to cancer services across the Midwest. The lodge provides accommodation for Midwest cancer patients and their carers to allow access to a range of cancer treatments closer to home. Protea Lodge was designed to create a ‘home away from home’ environment and an important aspect of that is feeling safe and comfortable. I was pleased to read that our security staff were able to respond promptly to your concerns and I will ensure your kind words are passed on to the security team with a special mention to Frank for their efforts to ensure you felt safe during your stay.

Thank you again for sharing your story on Patient Opinion. Patient Opinion is a fast, anonymous way to get feedback directly back to the health service about your experience, positive feedback allows us to recognise our staff for a job well done and not so good feedback allows us to reflect on what we could do better and make changes to improve the service.

I wish you all the best for the future and on your healthcare journey.

Warm Regards,

Jeff Calver
