"Diabetic diagnosis for our daughter"

About: Karratha Health Campus Perth Children's Hospital Royal Flying Doctor Service

(as a parent/guardian),

Our daughter fell ill suddenly with Type 1 diabetes which was picked up by our local pharmacist. We then presented to the Karratha Hospital and were seen to very quickly and professionally. Within hours, we were on an RFDS plane to Perth to be admitted to the Perth Children’s Hospital. We spent close to a week in the hospital, getting our daughter’s glucose levels under control and learning how to manage her diabetes. The staff we encountered (pharmacists, ambulance volunteers and paramedics, RFDS pilots and doctors and nurses, hospital doctors and nurses in both Karratha and Perth, specialists, etc) were so incredibly professional, educative and kind and we knew that we couldn’t possibly be in better hands.

Dear omegagn74

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent experience at Perth Children’s Hospital, particularly at this busy time of year. I acknowledge that having a child newly diagnosed with diabetes is an incredibly stressful time for parents and families. It is heartening to know that our staff, from all disciplines, provided your child with the excellent standard of care we strive for here at PCH.

I have shared your feedback with Dr Aresh Anwar, the Chief Executive of the Child and Adolescent Health Service, who is equally delighted to read your comments and asked me to extend his thanks to you for sharing them with us. Your feedback will also be shared with the teams involved, who always appreciate positive feedback.

Thank you again for your post, and please accept my best wishes for your child.

Kind regards

Dr Victor Cheng

Dear omegagn74,

On behalf of the WACHS Pilbara staff I would also like to thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. As Dr Cheng has described for his teams, it is always fantastic for our staff to hear that their care, professionalism and support has provided what is required, particularly when our patients and carers are experiencing challenging and distressing circumstances. It is always our intent that our consumers experience the level of care that you have, and it is so important that our staff hear these stories when they have exceeded expectations.

Your comments will be shared with all the Karratha Health Campus staff, and I echo Dr Cheng's best wishes for you and your daughter.

Kind Regards,

Margi Faulkner
