"My brother's release"

About: Flinders Medical Centre / Cancer Clinic

(as a relative),

My brother who has terminal brain cancer, was admitted to Flinders acute care recently following a nasty fall.

Just prior to his release from the ward his nose started bleeding, enough that blood was dripping on the floor. I feel this was basically ignored by staff.

He was released into the care of his x-wife, who was expected to walk him from the ward to the car park. My brother cannot walk properly, he shuffles now.

The result of what I believe was very unsafe practise was, he had another big fall, nearing the emergency exit. Lucky my sister-in-law caught his arm, which somehow stopped him tumbling down the stairs that lead to the courtyard.

Because he was walking and holding a tissue to his face, he went down like a ton of bricks.

Several people came to his assistance, including a lovely nurse, working in the transport section. She got him a wheelchair and ensured he was ok. Thank you

How do I feel? Absolutely gutted, it made me cry, to know my very frail brother had been hurt again. In a stroke of luck, if you can call it that, it was to the opposite side to where, he had injured himself last week.

Last night I saw a perfectly mobile man leave the ward. He wanted to walk himself down and the nurse insisted he was taken in a wheelchair.

Any process, sadly failed my dear brother.
