"Maternal Health Visit"

About: Primary & Community Care - Cowes

(as a relative),

First time my daughter has attended the Maternal Health Nurse in Bass Council. We have moved to the area recently.

I feel the nurse is very judgmental and detached from the realities of domestic violence. How dare she suggest that my daughter contact her ex to arrange contact.

He has never been denied access. He doesn’t support his child in any form. He didn’t even contact his child for Christmas.

Ever since birth, my daughter has been trying to do the right thing and has avoided placing an AVO on the father. He’s abusive and physically intimidating. What right does this woman have advising my daughter to put herself and my grandchild in harms way?

I suggest you have your nurse retrained. And maybe suggest that she keep her opinions to herself.

Absolutely infuriated with the whole experience

Dear Grammy, I am so very sorry you had this experience. It would really help me improve our service if you would ring me on my mobile (0472846355) and give me some more details so that I can work with the nurse. All MCH nurses have had skill development in Family Violence so I am really disappointed that your daughter felt judged. Please know that Bass Coast Health has a very strong commitment to preventing Family Violence, and reducing risk and harm to victims of violence. I promise you that we take this commitment seriously and I would be very keen to make sure your daughter never has this experience again. Kind Regards, Jan.
