"Outpatient waiting times"

About: Bunbury Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

We attended an appointment at Bunbury outpatients, scheduled for 10.45, we arrived 30 mins prior for my child requiring a repeat x-ray and we were still back in the waiting room at outpatients at 10.30.

We waited 2 hrs 15 mins to be seen, and the specialist just re-wrapped the backslab that had been on my child’s arm for the past 2 weeks, as we couldn’t get an appointment in the 7-10 day recommended time frame.

Taking my child out of school for that amount of time, we weren’t advised that the waiting times would be that long. I do understand that these can’t be predicted, but maybe the reception can advise people that often they run behind time.  I believe other outpatient departments run more efficiently than this one.

Dear orangeyb77

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience in our orthopaedic outpatients clinic. We value the feedback and acknowledge that the efficiency of the clinic needs to be improved and made more patient centred.

We are currently working with the orthopaedic team on this and looking at better processes to manage referrals and ensure we get people booked in within the recommended time frame.

On the day you attended the clinic there were some delays due to the doctors being called away to other duties but we are addressing this to ensure there is always a doctor able to attend the clinic on time so appointments don’t get behind.

Your feedback is invaluable in giving impetus to the changes we are making and once again I thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience and I apologise it was less than ideal. If you would like to discuss this further please call our Customer Liaison Officer on 9722 1521.

Regards

Glen Matters
