"Mental health"

About: Royal Melbourne Hospital

(as the patient),

I was recently admitted to the John Cade ward for a crisis admission. The following day I had family and friends ring the hospital and express their concerns as I had said to people when I get discharged (on the third day) I was going to try and end my life.  Even after all of that I was still discharged and less than 2 hours later I had an attempt on my life. And was taken back up to Royal Melbourne. After having a chat with another mental health worker I was told the treatment I received was not right and to stay the night and then in the morning we would come up with another plan. When I woke up the next morning I was told I was discharged with no follow up and not even talking to a mental health worker that morning about how my mood was that morning.

I am really not happy with the treatment I received.

Dear authenticpz55,

I am very distressed to hear about the concerns you have raised about your recent care. You have described your feelings about safety and the confusion regarding your management plan. First let me urge you to seek urgent assistance if you still have these thoughts and feelings. What is most important now is that you take measures that allow us to provide further support to you. Immediate assistance can be provided by calling 000. If you wish to speak to someone from our mental health team please contact our Mental Health Triage line: 1300 874 243. The Emergency Department remains an option if you choose to return.

The circumstances you describe in your posting need to be fully reviewed but we can’t do this without more information about your care. I would encourage you to contact our consumer liaison team at the following email address: consumerliaison@mh.org.au or via this link: Providing feedback about your experience | The Royal Melbourne Hospital and we will ensure that a prompt response is made.

I hope that you give us the opportunity to assist you further

Regards,

Professor George Braitberg
