"Being treated respectfully"

About: Angliss Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a carer),

Attended this hospital tonight with my partner with a suspected stoma obstruction

We got as far as triage and then left. In our opinion, the nurse had zero compassion, asking questions like - why do you have a stoma? Why were you in hospital last week?

My partner was doubled over in pain, trying to explain. I asked her to check his history as he is treated within Eastern Health and I believe was ignored.

She then said we are busy, you have to wait 2-3 hrs. My partner said I will be screaming in pain then. Response was we will give you pain meds. We explained these do not work for this type of situation. At this point my partner chose to leave.

We are at home with him trying to clear the blockage himself.

This is the 4th time we have been to the Angliss for an emergency and in our opinion, it has never gone well. This will be the last time - being spoken to in what we believe is a tone that makes you feel inferior and a nuisance when you are doubled over in pain is not respectful .

Dear Celtic pixie

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on Patient Opinion and I am truly sorry that you and your partner have had such a poor experience at the Angliss Hospital. This is not at all consistent with expectations for communication and care of patients and their family members. I will provide this feedback to the Emergency Department and ask that it be followed up.

I would also like to offer the opportunity for us to undertake a full investigation of the care of your partner and, if you would like us to do that, I would invite you to contact the Centre for Patient Experience+ on 1800 EASTERN or feedback@easternhealth.org.au.

Once again, I am sorry that your experience was not a positive one. We take feedback such as your very seriously so I hope we hear from you soon.

Regards,

Gayle
