"Staff under pressure at Kerang Medical Clinic"

About: Kerang Medical Clinic

(as the patient),

Some staff members have worked at the clinic for many years and and I feel they can't keep working. I feel that some staff have left because it seems like they can't handle all the work. I have noticed that the clinic has staff members starting at 6:30 am. Staff members seem to know everyone and are very friendly. The hospital would want to look into it and see if they can put more staff on to alleviate the workload. It seems like the staff love their job. It's such a shame because the staff members are lovely. Why can't they put someone else on? Other than that the doctors are all lovely.

Dear marchqx56,

Thank you for your observations of the staffing at Kerang Medical Clinic. You make some interesting points about the longevity of the staff, and that it seems that the staff love their job. The staff do a wonderful job, balancing a lot of different things at once in such a busy workplace.

In health care, staffing is based on the care requirements of the patients, and so in a medical clinic there is an amount of non-medical staff (reception, nursing, managers and cleaners) that support each Doctor working in that clinic to provide the care for the patients. Whilst this may seem very mathematical, it does provide a guideline and this helps with knowing how many staff are needed for rostering purposes each day.

If you would like to discuss Medical Clinic staffing further I am more than happy to meet with you or discuss this by phone.

I can be contacted in business hours on 03 54509210, or by email to make a time to meet on ckeogh@kerhosp.vic.gov.au

Kind Regards

Chloe
