"Appointments"

About: Royal Perth Hospital

(as a carer),

My spouse made an appointment to see an optomologist and when we arrived only to find that there was no apointment but I heard the conversation so I was aware on what was said.

My spouse wanted to see a particular doctor. And was told they could not. I explained that my spouse was a diabetic and needed to get home for insulin and something to eat but all the receptionist would say was that my spouse would have to wait hours to see the doctor. Then why make an appointment...not happy at all.

Dear xrayjp48,

Thank you for reaching out to provide insight on your recent experience in the Ophthalmology Clinic at Royal Perth Hospital. I sincerely apologise that this was your experience with us.. Patients waiting beyond their scheduled appointment time is not the level of care we strive to achieve, and was understandably stressful especially considering your spouses’ diabetic condition. To better understand the events that surrounded your specific experience and to convey our apologies, please may I ask that you get in contact with our staff in the Royal Perth Hospital Consumer Engagement Unit on 9224 1637. Any further information you can provide on your experience will enable us to ensure this is prevented in future.

Yours sincerely

Grant Waterer
