"Placed in a corner and seemingly forgotten."

About: Bunbury Hospital

(as the patient),

Recently, I went into the Day Procedure Unit after going from Emergency Room to upstairs Surgical Ward to Kids Ward (please note I am over 18) to being finally placed in the Day Procedure Unit. I experienced the most horrible nurses I've ever come across. The first night my surgery was cancelled late in the evening.  As I was not moving one of the nurses gave me the needle to stop the clots! I found it very unhygienic as the nurse did not appear to sterilize the area and never told me what they were doing, I basically just got stabbed.

The next day I am waiting for my surgery, was shocked that throughout the day the nurses did not check on me regularly! Once again I was given the needle for clots without the area apparently being cleaned! After my surgery I was placed back in the Day Procedure Unit, I for one was getting claustrophobic! During the whole day I did not complain as I was trying to remain calm but after my surgery, I could not handle being in a small space.  After my mother helped me to the toilet, she left and I was moved to another spot in the Day Procedure room, however I was placed in the corner out of sight with no button to call for help.  I was not given any medication to help with the pain throughout the night (they last gave me something at 8pm after my surgery)

I did not sleep.  At 4am I needed the toilet but had been hooked to a drip that didn't seem to be even going. As I didn't have a button to press to call them I had to start gently calling "excuse me" for 20 minutes. When they finally both came I got told that my pain was from not drinking enough water! At 5 am the man who comes to services the beds started working right where I was, which meant I could not sleep as he was doing the beds. Around 8-9 am I was told I needed to get changed and go sit in the lounge.  No one stopped to ask if I was feeling well or not! While I sat in the lounge I began to vomit which then got me placed back in a bed. With my pain still being high I need medicine which was finally given the right way.
One surgeon said I do not need to rush if I was still feeling ill and to wait to see if I could go home.  After the doctor left, one nurse came and told me to get up in, which I replied no as the surgeon said I can wait.  The doctor then came back and said to the nurse not to rush me.  However an hour after the doctor left, I was once again kicked out.  Again not asking how I felt, if the pain was okay! The nurse who was discharging me, I felt, accused me of hiding the scripts in my bag and then said my mother took them, even after my mother and I both said we did not have the scripts. I heard the nurse on the phone saying they reckon they don't have the scripts.  I found that very rude because why would I lie about scripts?  The discharge nurse then comes to take my drip off and instead of moving my bag by its straps, kicks my property across the way so it is out of their way!
We are told to respect nurses!  Well where's the respect for patients and their property? So disgusted in the Day Procedure Ward, I will never want to go back there and be around the nurses who dealt with me!

I would really like to be able to investigate the concerns you have raised and I would appreciate if you could call Barry Moroney, Nurse Unit Manager, Day Procedure Unit on 9722 1224 so we can begin that process.
