Having served as a volunteer for 20 years at the old facility and then when the facility became Kalyra/Woodcroft, I was extremely fortunate, and I would rather say blessed, that there was a place here for me when I suddenly needed one late last year.
I already knew some of the residents and several of the staff. And I have found that love and kindness permeates all levels of the functioning of the home from management at the top to the cleaning staff.
We are given freedom of choice in most areas and encouraged to be ourselves in joining activities and when we wish. Unless this sounds too idyllic, the one area we are still working through is my vegetarian diet. I have been a strict vegetarian since my 20s and am now in my 80s, so it is very important to me. But I realise that in this age group there are very few vegetarians, although there are many vegetarians and vegans in younger age groups.
I have been visited by the chef and have the privilege of eating by myself on a tray in my room. I am brought lots of fruit and salads and live in a cheerful happy atmosphere.
I am well known for picking up a pen and not knowing when to stop. So I will conclude, thanking you for this opportunity to express my thoughts. Yours sincerely.
"Fortunate to have a place at Kalyra"
