"My recent experience with a locum"

About: Wyndham Hospital

(as the patient),

I had to get a script for my blood pressure tablets and could only see a locum.  The usual doctors were not there to see me. I was told by the locum that they could not give me a script because:

1. They didn't know me

2. The system on the computer has changed and they have no information on me

3. The tablets I was after would be a triple whammy and kill my kidneys.

I told the locum that I would probably die if I don't take my tablets and I only had 4 tablets left. They said I will give you only 30 tablets and you need to have your bloods done.  So I proceeded to have my blood taken. After both my hands and both arms were prodded and pricked, there was no blood. Then I was told that I had to have my blood pressure taken. I replied, are you for real? After everything I have just gone through, you think my blood pressure will be normal? I feel I will never go to see a locum again, and if it isn't hard enough here in remote Wyndham town, I can always drive 100 kilometers to Kununurra to see someone there. What a joke.

Hello taurusnb99,

Thank you for getting into contact with us through Patient Opinion.

I understand your concern with the constant change in doctors at Wyndham Hospital. The provision of contemporary and appropriate health care and recruitment of doctors is a high priority for WA Country Health Services, Kimberley and I can assure you that planning is being undertaken to address the issue.

We have had a change in systems and there has been training provided. Steps have been taken to make the transition as easy as possible during this difficult transition and the information should have been available. I would like to look into this directly for you as this is a very important part of our change management process and ongoing health care for our patients. Please call me and let me know your details so I can talk to the staff about accessing your information for your next visit and providing them with further training. My contact number is 0408944605.

Hope to hear from you

Keda Bond
