"Difficulty breathing"

About: Albany Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I came into the Albany Health Campus with difficulty breathing related to tonsillitis, and I've waited half an hour to be taken into the Emergency Department room and it’s been over an hour and a half and still have not been seen. I would think someone with difficulty breathing and chest pain would be taken more seriously.

Dear gammahn68,

I understand your concern and frustration at the waiting time. I appreciate that it would have been a distressing and uncomfortable wait for you. Our Emergency Department has been very busy in the last 24 hours.

All patients presenting at our Emergency Department are assessed for clinical urgency. Patients are treated in order of priority according to their condition, and only those with more complex care requirements would have been seen ahead you.

Our Emergency Department staff strive to see patients as soon as they possibly can, and ensure that all patients are seen according to the appropriate Department of Health timeline.

I’d welcome speaking with you directly about your experience. I may then be able to offer you more specific feedback around your wait. You can contact me on 9892 2620.

With best wishes

Juan Clark
