I had a successful water birth in Bunbury Regional hospital. I felt happy and well informed and well supported by my midwife. I felt the care was very good.
I was a little nervous at the beginning of my pregnancy because all my previous children were born in New Zealand. A place where your primary carer during pregnancy is from a midwife and not an obstetrician. So I went with MGP a service I felt I was more used to. Similar to New Zealand.
If I could change anything I would probably encourage a longer stay in hospital for mums after birth. I feel 4 hours is not enough. Yeah I was fine, but I feel that others would benefit from a longer stay with longer monitoring and support.
With all my previous births I was able to stay for up to a week in hospital which I found extremely beneficial. Even if my births were low risk and very straight forward (no tearing or epidural or caesarean), I believe mums need to recoup and rest with support, whether it be breastfeeding support or just to have someone fix a healthy meal.
Apart from that I was extremely happy with my midwife. Best in Bunbury
