I was admitted to the Emergency Department (ED) of Kalgoorlie Hospital via ambulance, after being seen by Silver Chain at my residence. They were there to change my suprapubic catheter in which they found it stuck.
A doctor was summoned to attend and after doing my observations found my blood pressure was very low, and an ambulance was called because of these concerns.
We arrived at Kalgoorlie Hospital ED and I was put into a cubicle which was cleaned by paramedics, as it was unclean there. When my spouse was allowed in 30 minutes later I was told that no one was waiting in the waiting area to be seen and it had taken over 40 minutes from time of arrival to the time when I was seen by a medical professional. After assessing the catheter, same staff member came back and proceeded to pull on the catheter causing the most excruciating pain.
When finished I was still in pain and barely able to walk - I was told to get a blood test but was told I had to walk to pathology.
And lastly when I was getting dressed trying to attach the catheter bag to my leg, naked from the waist down a nurse walked in and threw the curtains completely back, exposing me for anyone to see - In my opinion very unprofessional.
The doctor at that time was going through the garbage bin trying to find straps for the catheter bag that they had thrown out.
As we have only one hospital in Kalgoorlie this has left me emotionally scarred, and scared of having to go back there.
"Lack of care and professionalism"
