(as a relative),

My sibling passed away nearly a couple years ago of cancer. About a week before they passed they were feeling unwell so my other sibling dropped them off at Fiona Stanley Hospital and they said they had to stay the night. In the very early hours of the morning they said they were okay to go home so they wheeled them outside of the hospital. My sibling couldn’t get hold of family and had no way of getting home. This was several years ago.

Dear jazzmm79,

Thank you for your feedback regarding your sibling's presentation to ED approximately two years ago. We are sorry to hear they have since passed away.

Discharge planning for a patient in ED is a process which can occur at any hour of the day or night, as we need to ensure patients presenting to ED have access to medical care/beds.

However, we do need to ensure patients being discharged have a safe place to be discharged to, and a safe mode of transport getting to their destination. I am sorry that in your sibling's case, you feel we didn’t ensure their safety.

We are glad to hear your sibling managed, on this occasion, to get home safely.

Although this incident happened two years ago, we can investigate further for you, if you would like to contact our Patient and Family Liaison Department on 08 6152 4013 and offer patient details. It could be something to consider if you have unanswered questions and concerns about your sibling's Emergency Department presentation to Fiona Stanley Hospital.
