"Senior staff member's attitude"

About: The Oaks Aged Care Facility

(as a service user),

On viewing the respite rooms, I thought they were well equipped for my parent's needs and booked a room. My parent wasn't with me as they can barely walk through as their hips and knees have given way. They are elderly and I care for them at home with some home help.

On arrival, I felt the senior staff member who we dealt with took a quick dislike to my parent and ordered them out.

The senior staff member would not let my parent even try the scales as they thought would be damaged. They claim that they think my parent is over 200 kgs which I highly doubt. I felt they showed no empathy or compassion towards my parent.

My parent is also an Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) carrier. It's just on their right toe and has been treated. Our family also has a slow thyroid which means we retain fluid.

The senior staff member accused me of providing my parent with a poor diet and laughed when I complained. For 10 years I have cared for my other parent who was diabetic before they passed with dementia.

We were both highly insulted and paid $100 for an access van to transport my parent for no reason.

What I have learnt with this experience is don't trust people are going to treat your parents with the same respect you do,

And check the facilities before even bringing them there.

My parent has many friends who volunteer there and some who already reside there, which was the main reason they wanted to stay there. With the senior staff member's treatment of my parent, I am now looking elsewhere.
