"Outstanding care by all staff involved"

One morning recently l awoke with severe upper left thorax pain. As it did not improve l rang 000 and within 5 minutes a Mobile intensive care ambulance (MICA) and four paramedics were in attendance.

They checked my vital signs and administered an ECG. I believe they administered pain relief, helped me dress and descend from the first storey of my house. Their manner was professional, reassuring and genuinely empathetic.

I arrived at Box Hill Hospital Emergency Department and my transfer of care was expedited. From the moment of my arrival, l found the clinical staff to be thorough, attentive and courteous. Admission to ED, Short Stay and the Ward 6.1 was carried out with clear communication at each juncture. I was made comfortable and provided with appropriate pain relief.

I had, accidentally, left my mobile at home so my family and friends were unaware l had been hospitalised. Thanks to some clever detective work of one of my siblings, they attended to me later that night with my mobile. The staff readily assisted their attendance.

During both days l underwent a myriad of medical investigations to determine the aetiology of the pain. I was pleasantly surprised that clinical staff, to a person, were considerate, caring and professional.

Whilst l was quite anxious during this time, at all times l felt l was in an environment where l was receiving the very best quality of care. Additionally, l was most impressed by the conduct of ancillary staff. Food assistants, cleaners and porters were always friendly, polite and efficient.

After a five day admission where one key complication was effectively treated, l can honestly report that the level of care l received from medical and nursing staff that attended to me was excellent. 

I wish to sincerely thank all the staff of 6.1 who assisted so much in my complete recovery. Your professionalism is exemplary.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your positive comments regarding your experience at Box hill Hospital. This must have been a very challenging time for you (not referring to not having your mobile phone with you - although that can be a nightmare!).

I was so pleased to read how the staff clearly displayed the Eastern Health values of Patients First, Kindness, Respect, Excellence, Agility and Humility. It will give me great pleasure to share your comments with them so they see first hand the impact they had on you and your experience.
