"Lack of care for at risk patient"

About: Casey Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I’ve been at this hospital a few times over the past year. They have all been suicide/alcohol-related reasons, all with requesting help and detox, but I got sent home every time.

I went to another facility. Not only did they see my risk, (I feel I’ve been completely honest with both hospitals) but they kept me, and made sure I had a plan once I left and they helped me go to rehab etc.

I recently had an incident where I hurt myself badly. Casey Hospital was the closest place my parent could drive me. I believe I would have finished the job if I wasn’t caught by a family member. I even passed over a “help me” note to the Triage Nurse and what happened was after about 8 hours - I finally had a severely deep cut sewn up and then got told I wasn’t in a worse enough state for them to admit me.

I know for a fact that if Casey did their job I would have gotten help sooner -I believe it being a teaching hospital, is not an excuse.

I feel it’s incredibly hard to ask for help in the first place but to feel written off like that, I believe it makes people like me wonder why to bother asking for help. I’m still not mentally okay. In my opinion, duty of care is completely botched. I get you’re busy but I feel if you can’t get enough staff, then don’t run a hospital.

Regards,
Someone that (hopefully) will be around long enough to see a response.
P.s- I have found help myself. So fingers crossed for me.
