"Correct medication not given"

About: Box Hill Hospital / General Medical

(as a relative),

My parent was admitted to Box Hill Hospital, having been taken by the amazing paramedics with what they thought could be a stroke. They phoned ahead to the hospital and my parent was met by a doctor immediately and assessed.

My parent then had a seizure which they now say was an epileptic seizure. They have been given meds and is so far doing ok. The problem is that my parent was not given their medication for their diabetes or their high blood pressure. This was only picked up by the pharmacist as my parent was getting ready to be discharged.

I handed the Webster pack to the paramedics and I saw them hand them over to the hospital. I also spoke to 2 doctors and told them what meds my parent takes. I just don't want to see this happen to anyone else as it could have serious consequences

Thank you

Dear Umu,

Thank you so very much for taking the time to share your comments regarding your parent's care at Box Hill Hospital. I am really pleased they're doing well with the medications and that the care and treatment they received on the way to hospital was so good. I will be sure to share your comments with the CEO of Ambulance Victoria!

I am most concerned that your parent did not receive their medications while in hospital. As such, could I please ask if you can make contact with the Patient Relations Advisors in the Centre for Patient Experience either by calling 1800 EASTERN or email feedback@easternhealth.org.au I would like to make sure we investigate what has happened here so we can make any necessary improvements.

Through making contact we can obtain personal information and therefore be able to progress to investigate.

I trust we will hear from you soon and thanks again so much for highlighting these concerns.

Kind regards and best wishes

David
