I attended the Busselton Emergency Department on the Sunday of a long weekend having a very high temperature and what I thought was a UTI.
I was taken through immediately, and very promptly seen by a doctor who ordered blood and urine tests, commenced IV antibiotics and arranged for me to stay in the short-term ward.
Everyone I saw was very helpful and friendly. After 2 rounds of antibiotics, my temperature was back down and I was feeling much brighter. I was discharged, but the doctor in charge advised the results of some blood test would take a day or so and should I feel unwell to return.
Next day I left for work in Perth. Over the next day, I started to feel unwell but kept taking the oral medication supplied. The hospital called and advised I have a very dangerous blood infection and to go to my GP straight away or back to them. I had treatment-resistant septicemia. The hospital called several times a day to check on me, made sure I had the new medications, arrange more blood tests and advised that should I need to come back, all was ready for me and I would be seen straight away.
Good news - I am back to my normal good health and I can not thank the hospital staff enough for all their care and prompt attention. They were very supportive and kept in contact until my results were clear. Thank you.
