"PACE program"

About: Perth Children's Hospital / Complex Pain Management - Clinic K

(as the patient),

I cannot even begin to express what I feel was an absolute trainwreck, which was my eight weeks in this program.

I dreaded every Tuesday and Thursday which would be okay as that could be counted as my own personal attitude but during the program, I had suffered from multiple EDC tendon ruptures in my index and middle finger and a deteriorating EDC tendon in my ring finger and an EPL tendon rupture all on one hand. I was told for weeks and weeks on end that it was in my head and to use the methods they had given me while I believe, preventing me from any sort of medical screening.

I believe it was only when I was becoming visibly distressed around my parents, did I see a hand OT and rheumatologist who ordered an MRI in which they found the ruptures and severe muscle atrophy.

I had gone through weeks and weeks of suffering, countless nights crying and being told off by professionals for taping my hand, despite it being incredibly visible that I could not move my thumb at all or keep it in a position. I still suffer from the trauma surrounding, what I believe was medical neglect. I feel all this could have been avoided if they had at least ordered a simple imaging test.

Dear betadq84,

Thank you for providing your feedback on your experience with the PACE program facilitated by the Child and Adolescent Health Service on Patient Opinion.

I am disappointed to hear the experience you describe. Some of our core values are respect and compassion, I am sorry to hear these weren’t displayed during your twice weekly appointments at the program.

I would like to discuss this with you further, however, I am unable to do that without having information about yourself. I would appreciate you making direct contact with me either via email at victor.cheng@health.wa.gov.au or phone on 6456 5890

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Victor Cheng

Executive Director Operations - CAHS
