"My child's heart attack - Lyell McEwin Hospital"

About: Lyell McEwin Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

To all the emergency and support staff at the Lyell McEwin Hospital,

Recently, my adult child rang me in the evening asking for help, I believe they were having a heart attack. I rang triple 000; the lady on other end was fantastic and so patient, in my opinion. The ambulance arrived quickly and assessed it was a cardiac event - we have thanked those young paramedics for their diligence and expertise and I thank God for that.

My other child had gone to meet the ambulance and to ensure their sibling was okay. Due to the current restrictions (COVID-19); the fact I am currently in the middle of cancer treatment and my other child is asthmatic, we remained mindful of the risks to all and especially my child and the staff who would be dealing with them. Sadly, it meant they were taken to the hospital on their own.

Turns out they were certainly not alone on arrival. My child recalls doctors/nurses waiting for them and moving things along very quickly. Thank you, thank you, thank you, because of this, you saved my child's life and that is priceless! As a family, we are also so grateful to the nurses and staff within the cardiac critical care unit who, over the course of my child's stay in the hospital, continued to provide excellent care.

We cannot express enough gratitude to all of the fantastic staff who we had to deal with at that time; their empathy, professionalism and expertise provided my child with a second chance at life, which the deserve! So keep up your fantastic work and know you are more than appreciated.

Thank you again.

Kindest regards.
