"MGP4 at the King Edward Memorial Hospital"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Community Midwifery Program

(as the patient),

I recently gave birth to my first baby under the care of MGP4. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Being pregnant for the first time is a wonderful but daunting experience, not knowing what to expect and when. Having continuous care from MGP4 meant that there was always a friendly voice at the end of the phone for advice when I needed. I always felt reassured as I knew whoever was on call (if it wasn't my own midwife) knew my history and could offer very specific and bespoke experience.

I had to visit MFAU a few times during my pregnancy, and it was so nice to know there would be a face I recognised there waiting to take care of me.

My midwife was Maddi, who was absolutely amazing! She took over from a previous midwife part way through my MGP4 care, but by the time I gave birth, I felt like I'd known her forever! She went out of her way to understand our situation and tailored the support she provided based on that. She supported me in the development of a birth plan and followed up on all questions that I had. Unfortunately, Maddi couldn't be at the birth of my daughter but she made sure she came to see me on the ward afterwards which was so lovely to see a familiar face when you enter into the unexpected world of motherhood! Home visits with Maddi were also amazing- we learnt so much, she took the time again to understand our situation at home and provided us with a wealth of support and advice to help us get used to being first-time parents. We really miss not having her around!

The other members of the MGP4 team were also amazing. Leanne was present at our birth and I cannot speak highly enough of her. I had met her before at parent education classes so it was nice to see a familiar face even when your own midwife couldn't be present for the birth. She was so supportive and understood our birth plan and wishes. She was there when we needed her, but left us to do our own thing when the times were right. She monitored us always even when we couldn't see her. She motivated me when I thought I couldn't do it anymore and took time post-birth to help us get to know our baby.

We also had interactions with other members of the MGP4 team - Sarah and Liz specifically who either were there at the end of the phone or supported me on my visits to MFAU - they knew your history which was so nice to not have to explain your situation every time you visit the hospital. You also knew that your visit and outcome was going to be handed over to your main midwife and you would receive a follow up from them the next day to acknowledge they are aware of what has happened.

I could not imagine a better pregnancy and birthing experience - they were fantastic and I felt completely safe and secure in their care. I would absolutely love for more women and families to have access to the care of MGP4 as I truly believe the continuation of care model is the best way to experience pregnancy and bring a child into the world.

I also wanted to give a massive shout out to one of the KEMH midwives who supported us during my induction before MGP4 took over - Grace. She was absolutely amazing. I believe she was a graduate midwife, or in training. She was soooo sooo lovely and understood exactly what I needed without me or my husband having to ask or think about it. She was calming, caring and reassuring when needed. I cannot speak highly enough of her also.

I loved my birthing experience with MGP4 at KEMH!
