"Lack of doctors"

About: Karratha Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My child was sick with a chest infection sore throat and headaches - couldn’t get a doctor's appointment until next month. A few days ago, we went to emergency at the hospital in the morning to be told to come back a few hours later - doctor said sore chest was from coughing, keep taking codral cold tablets and anti-inflammatory tablets.

Dear velajz96,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your experience at Karratha Health Campus.

I am sorry to hear that you were unable to get an appointment with a Doctor in a timely manner for your child. A long wait time at the Emergency Department (ED) would have been frustrating for you and I apologise that this happened.

At Karratha Health Campus ED we have a triage process in place that ensures that patients are seen based on the urgency of their health condition. While this means that urgent cases are seen quickly, it may also mean that if there is a high volume of urgent cases on the day, patients with less serious symptoms may need to wait longer.

I would like the opportunity to review and discuss your child’s care with you and would appreciate it if you could contact me. My name is Liam and I am the Acting Operations Manager for West Pilbara. Please feel free to email me at liam.avery@health.wa.gov.au or call me on 9144 7630.

Thank you again for taking the time to provide feedback to us and I hope your child is doing much better.

Yours sincerely,

Liam Avery
