"Positive Birth Education - Hypnobirthing"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

My partner and I are due to give birth later this year and were offered the opportunity to attend the Positive Birth Education classes online via Zoom with midwife Kasey. As we live in the Kimberley region, we were so pleased to have this course made available to us online. Prior to finding out about this course we had been looking at similar options to purchase online, but were hesitant due to the approximate cost of hundreds of dollars for accessing this same content. I couldn't believe it when we discovered that we would be able complete this course for free!

We had a fantastic experience completing the classes with Kasey across 4 weekend sessions. Overall I think this course was absolutely brilliant, I feel privileged to have completed it and it has given me so much confidence to go through my pregnancy, labour and birth. Although on first hearing of Hypnobirthing it sounds very alternative, we discovered that it is simply a comprehensive birth education program that guides parents through this incredible part of their life. The tools that we learnt are very straight forward in my opinion, but I feel it was the way we were taught them that made the biggest difference. Even though the entire course was online, Kasey did an incredible job of creating a safe space for the group to feel comfortable and have fun too. I believe that simply reading the same information at home would not have the same impact.

I feel this course should be offered to all expectant parents, it has been eye-opening and so empowering to hear birth talked about in such a positive way. The content is equally targeted at the birth mother and the support partner, so it creates an amazing team dynamic between the two adults and the baby. I feel closer to my partner after completing this course as we are working together to practice the tools and strategies, and both have an important role to play. It has made me excited to take on the challenge of labour and birth and I do not feel fearful about such a big life experience.

Thank you SO much to Bunbury Hospital once again for taking a chance on rolling this program out through the public health system - in my opinion, West Australians in the country are truly so fortunate to have this available.

Dear Hearty123,

I was excited to hear that you had attended the antenatal classes from your home in the Kimberley’s. It is an amazing part of the country, and certainly a little warmer than it is down here at present.

COVID has certainly bought with it some challenges but it has also created some fantastic opportunities. We are very fortunate that Bunbury have been able to continue providing the antenatal classes, adapting to the online antenatal classes’ format. It has enabled us to ensure greater access to the comprehensive program for families across the state.

Kasey is such a dynamic and passionate facilitator and I will ensure your kind words are passed on. I wish you and your partner all the best with your birth journey ahead of you and I know the tools and strategies taught in the class will hold you in good stead as you start your next chapter into the exciting world of parenting. Take care.
