"Unnecessary waiting"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital

(as the patient),

I had an ocular appointment a few days ago. On arrival, I went through the COVID questions. I told them I had a runny nose that day so they took me to the emergency ward to be tested and they sat me near a draft and waited for 2 hours. I am an elderly citizen and there were lots of foot traffic where I was made to wait. I felt they put me more in danger of COVID waiting to be tested compared to what I came in for. After two hours, I got up and left as I couldn’t bear it. I do, however, have to go back for my appointment.

Dear sigmakg84,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I apologise for any distress caused by your experience. Your valuable feedback is important to help us review our processes concerning the COVID 19 screening process. I am sorry you waited that length of time in a cold draft, without either having been fully assessed for your runny nose or for your regular ocular appointment. Please contact us on SESLHD-SSEHExecutiveServices@health.nsw.gov.au if you would like assistance in rebooking your ocular appointment.

Kind regards,

Alan
