"A condition called spinocerebellar ataxia"

About: Prince of Wales Hospital / Speech Pathology Department

(as a service user),

About three years ago, I was diagnosed with SCA, which they believe started about 20-25 years ago. It is now getting worse fast, impacting balance, coordination and fine motor skills.

I feel good but somewhat frustrated in that I can no longer surf or play golf. I exercise frequently, swim and walk. All in an effort to stay upright for as long as possible. My speech and visionary suffering and gradually getting worse.

All I can say is that Karin was superb..knowledgeable, caring, experienced and willing to listen. I felt her suggestions were excellent and I believe will make a difference to the independence of my life.

It all started with Nina in physio. She recommended a holistic view coordinated by REHAB. Dr. Peter put a lot of actions by various people in place and they have all happened and have been of high quality. There was no follow-up required; it happened with a minimum of fuss. It has been very impressive.

Dear novemberbc84,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us to acknowledge the Allied Health staff and share your positive experience at the Prince Of Wales Hospital. We are delighted to read that you have recovered well and appreciate your kind words about the Physiotherapy, Medical and Occupational Therapist staff involved in your care, in particular Nina, Karin and Dr Peter who provided such a positive and professional experience.

I hope that you continue to recover following the SCA and again I thank you for taking the time to express your appreciation.

Kind Regards,

Elizabeth Browne
