"Maternity waiting time"

About: Rockingham General Hospital / Maternity, Labour Ward, Nursery and Level 2 Care Nursery

(as a service user),

I’ve had to come in for several appointments due to complications with my pregnancy. Often I’m told to come at any time, other times I’m given a set time, every time there is a minimum of five hours waits. It’s getting very tiresome.

As I was writing this, I was crammed in a patient's lounge with 3 other expectant mothers.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and observations from your experience in our Maternity Assessment Unit.

I am sincerely sorry to hear that you have experienced such long waiting times. Unfortunately, waiting times can vary due to unexpected presentations of women who are at high risk. Our aim is to always prioritise such women first and often this has an impact on the wait times of scheduled visits. We do endeavour to schedule booked visits for when it is historically quieter times or during times when we have additional staff so that we can reduce the wait for booked visits.

I have shared your feedback with our Maternity Unit Manager who is reviewing the issues you raised with the aim of improving wait times for all our patients.

Additionally, I would also like to apologise that during your visit you felt uncomfortable in the patients lounge. Our intent is to always ensure that expectant mothers are given the appropriate care and are made to feel comfortable in their surroundings. We have now organised for a sofa to be placed in the patients lounge which should provide more comfortable seating arrangement.

I hope aside from this experience, your pregnancy is going well and I wish you well with the birth of your baby.
