"Childbirth with MGP4 King Edwards Hospital"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Community Midwifery Program

(as the patient),

We were lucky enough to fall into Midwifery Group Practice 4 at King Edwards Maternity Hospital which we understand only happens for a very small group of patients.

Our reason for writing this is to highlight how good a practice it is having continuity with our midwife and a small team to deliver fantastic care throughout our pregnancy.

Sarah and Liz were fantastic advocates and caregivers from start to finish. I doubt you can deliver the same outcome if we were to have a different midwife each time you come to an appointment and then following into delivery and post-delivery care.

We had what could be described as a 'tricky delivery' in the end and we feel strongly that this was greatly helped by the fact we trusted our midwives with their advice and care.  With this model of care, we got to build up a great relationship with Sarah and Liz. If we had to make a decision regarding changes to our birth we were doing it with the best knowledge and care and they understood us as patients.

When we discussed with Sarah how lucky we were to fall into this practice we really wanted to say thank you. The practice should be available to much more patients and be considered as a standard model for all patient care.

Thank You.

Dear delphinusmz97,

Congratulations on the birth of your new baby. I am so pleased to hear that you had a great birthing experience with the Women and Newborn Health Service (WNHS) Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) model.

I understand that when birthing plans change, it can be a very stressful time for parents. It is great to read of the supportive relationship that you built with Sarah and Liz, helping you through this anxious time.

WNHS is looking to expand the MGP as we see the number of families in the community wanting to access this model of care grow. Your feedback helps us to do this, so I thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I will ensure that Sarah and Liz are provided with your kind words.

Kind regards,

Jodi Graham
