"Hypnobirthing Australia Positive Birth Program"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

My partner and I took part in the Positive Birthing Program, ran by Kasey through Bunbury Hospital, and we couldn't recommend it enough.

The free program, which has been adapted from Hypnobirthing Australia and was delivered via Zoom classes across two weekends, teaches upcoming parents about pregnancy, birth and how to have a positive birthing experience.

I found the course very insightful and it gave me plenty of "tools" to consider and use coming up to and during the lead up to birth. Hypnobirthing can sound a little alternative but Kasey is a fantastic educator and I really enjoyed how open and practical she was when delivering the course.

I think one of the most important points I learnt from the classes was that you as a parent have a lot more say/choice over certain situations, particularly when it comes to medical intervention than thought, and that by having the tools to change your mindset about pregnancy and birth can go a long way in changing a negative birthing experience into a positive one.

While I won't be using every tool in the Hypnobirthing toolkit, I will certainly be putting into practise a number of techniques explained. Thanks, Kasey and team!

Dear danceyr47,

Thank you for taking the time to write to Care Opinion.

I am so pleased that you took the opportunity to attend the birth classes. As you said, they sound a little “alternative” but they are comprehensive, evidenced-based classes that provide so many positive strategies to support yourself and your family throughout labour and beyond. As with so many things in life, it is not a one size fits all, and I am pleased that you have found some of the strategies that are a fit for you.

We are very fortunate to have such a dynamic facilitator in Kasey and I will pass on your kind words. I wish you all the best for your pending birth and parenting journey.

Take care.

Katrina Jones.
