"Delayed antibiotics in an autoimmune patient"

About: GPs in the Wide Bay Electoral District

(as the patient),

I had an emergency caesarean and a second emergency surgery immediately after (both) recently. I developed a staph infection 4 weeks later, was given antibiotics and it seemed to clear up.

5 weeks later, the infection came back but much worse. The dr treating me restarted me on antibiotics and daily dressings for the badly infected wound. It finally looked to be healing as I no longer had any redness and no discernible discharge, just some swelling.

More recently, I ran out of antibiotics but was unable to see my dr, so rang and asked if an antibiotic script could be filled for me. I was refused and told the dr would not write the script unless I had an appointment. The same thing happened again the next day.

By that point, the infection had worsened horribly. The discharge was back, yellow, smelled bad and hurt. I managed to get to the dr but didn't have an appointment. The doctor was there but would not write me the script or see me, I believe because they wanted to go home. The doctor walked right past me!

I have an autoimmune disease and am on disease-modifying drugs, including biologics which destroy my immune system. A staph infection will make me very ill, very quickly without antibiotics. It is dangerous. I'm so upset.

I am finally able to have an appointment as I can get a lift to the dr but the infection has now spread again and will take ages to begin healing again. I'm so, so angry. It makes no sense to me. The doctor knows what the infection is, my history, the dangers involved... I feel neglected. I feel unsafe. I feel like my life is worthless to my dr and their staff. I feel alone. I feel vulnerable. Mostly, I feel sick.
