"Meals"

About: Albany Health Campus / Catering

(as the patient),

Firstly, I have no issues with any staff, medical or other, and was treated extremely well.

I had been admitted via another hospital with the possibility of having suffered a stroke due to my medical condition. Thankfully, I had not had a stroke but one of my conditions made it hard for me temporarily to swallow solid food. Accordingly, I was put on a soft food diet and this is where I felt things went downhill.

I fully appreciate that there are dietary requirements but the food that was placed in front of me, in my opinion, was tasteless, uninviting to look at and due to the dryness of the food, hard to digest. I had three meals in a row that had exactly the same vegetable content in scoop form with a supplement of some sort of meat dish which had been diced.

I believe that with a little thought, those meals could have been presented in such a way that one would at least try to eat it.

Dear defendermy96,

Thank you for expressing your concerns about your recent stay at Albany Health Campus through Care Opinion. I am very sorry to learn that you were disappointed with the meals provided to you.

The dietitian and speech pathology team in consultation with Hotel Service’s, review and design meal plans to cater to all of our inpatient needs. This is particularly important for patients with high nutritional requirements, those with swallowing difficulties or those with a history of stroke. Menu audits are also done every month, where the consistency of texture modified meals, as well as the taste of the meals, are scrutinised. Any feedback such as yours is provided to the Hotel Services team to enable ongoing improvement and to ensure our patients receive the best possible food. If you are available and would like to, we would like to invite you to attend one of these menu audits. This can be done by contacting our Senior Dietitian, Alison on 9892 2405 to organise a suitable time.

I have also shared your feedback with our Allied Health Manager and Hotel Services Manager so they are aware.

Thank you again for contacting us through Care Opinion and thank you also for recognising our medical and nursing staff.

Kind regards,

Juan Clark
