"Birth of my baby with MGP5"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Community Midwifery Program King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

This is long overdue and I can only blame being a new mum for that but the midwives in MGP5 that attended to me deserve every praise in the world. Particularly Jenny, Tess, Caitlin and Hayley who I felt went above and beyond to help me throughout my pregnancy and the delivery of my baby. From the very start, I was given the best service and care.

Jenny was informative and made everything I needed to know and do very clear down to booking my scans and classes I needed to attend. I was lucky enough to also see her for a CTG scan where I was very well looked after no matter how busy they were.

Although I’d only briefly had Tess as my midwife she’d been amazing at helping me understand all the things my baby would need after birth and thoroughly explaining the vaccination process so I was aware as to what they were for.

I can’t even begin to thank Caitlin who jumped on to be my midwife towards the end of my pregnancy. The most down to earth person who gave me the utmost care. My little baby had unfortunately stopped growing in the womb and I was needing to be monitored frequently and Caitlin handled booking my scans and appointments like an absolute champ even when we had mix-ups and made sure to always inform me of what was happening and why.

Even prior to the Dr deciding I would be induced Hayley was amazing at informing me of the process of it all. I never left doubting how it would go about because any questions I had she was able to answer. I was lucky enough to have her as my midwife in the delivery room. Any fears I had of giving birth were eased because Hayley had made me feel comfortable. Giving birth, I think can feel like a scary experience for some but having the midwives from the MGP5 group made it seem less so and I felt safe.

I can’t imagine going through the whole experience without these ladies and the care and effort they’ve put in. No questions I had were too silly for them and every concern I had they made sure to reassure me even if it was at one in the morning. I’m so so glad my Dr was able to put me through and I had the support of not one but four amazing midwives. These ladies have been incredible in looking after me and my baby not only during my pregnancy but the aftercare when I went home from the hospital too. The level of care I got especially during a pandemic and busy period, I couldn’t fault. Again, thank you to MGP5 and the four lovely midwives for helping me deliver my baby.

Dear craterbw36,

Congratulations on the birth of your child. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your experience with the Women and Newborn Health Service (WNHS) and the Midwifery Group Practice model of care.

We are incredibly proud of our Midwifery Group Practice Team 5 (MGP5) and the way they work with our patients to achieve positive outcomes during the pregnancy and birthing journey. It is pleasing to hear that you had a positive experience and that you felt safe and supported throughout your pregnancy and this continued when your birthing plans changed unexpectedly. I am pleased to hear that despite the changes due to the COVID-19 situation, you received a high level of care.

Thank you for sharing your story and we will be sure to send your appreciative comments to all the staff involved, with special thanks to Jenny, Tess, Caitlin and Hayley

I wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Kind regards,

Dr Matthew Skinner
