I woke one morning recently and discovered a rash around my midriff from middle back to middle stomach. I assumed it was Shingles and rang the local surgery for an appointment. They were busy, and advised I visit ED at Narrogin Hospital.
I was unaware there was an anti-viral available which could be administered within 72 hours of the rash appearing. I saw a who pronounced I was correct in my supposition it was Shingles. They prescribed Amitriptyline 25 mg to be taken twice daily, suggested I use calamine lotion and take panadol for the pain.
By the weekend the pain was quite bad, and I rang my neighbour, a doctor who prescribed an anti-viral although they thought it would be too late to deal with the rash and shooting pains. I saw another doctor the following week and they prescribed Lyzalon 75mg for the pain. I am cross that the first doctor did not prescribe the anti-viral on the day I presented and help stop the shingles becoming full-blown which it is now.
I received a phone call from someone at the start of the next week to enquire after my treatment at ED. I told them that the doctor did not prescribe an anti-viral and they were going to find out why. Thank you for listening to my diatribe about ED and the treatment. The nurse and front of ED were most helpful and efficient in checking me in. I thank them for that.
