"Maternity Ward staff"

About: Wonthaggi Hospital / Maternity Services

(as a carer),

My wife is pregnant with twins, and we are booked into another hospital for the birth as Wonthaggi is only Low Risk (which we understand). Recently, my wife was having tightening pelvic pressure and also had back pain.

We believed this to be Braxton Hicks but weren't 100% sure. We contacted the hospital we are booked in with and they asked if we could contact Wonthaggi just to do an assessment on my wife, to save the 1 hour trip for perhaps a false alarm.

The midwife I spoke with at Wonthaggi, in my opinion, was incredibly rude and refused to help, in fact, they said to call an ambulance and go to the other hospital.

I understand that Wonthaggi couldn't deliver the babies, however, was extremely disappointed they wouldn't even assess her and see if there was a need to travel to the other hospital.

Dear eaterwg73,

I am dismayed to read your post. I would like to undertake an investigation so that we can identify the staff member involved and help understand the response.

Rudeness and unhelpfulness are unacceptable, even if we are not the best service to provide care. I would very much appreciate it if you could call me on 0472 846 355 so that I can follow up.

Please accept my sincere apologies for your experience. I hope everything is OK.

Kind Regards,

Jan.
