"Pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Breastfeeding Centre of WA King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I live in the KEMH catchment area and had my 20+ weeks appointments at the East Wing clinic. Despite getting a different midwife each time, I thought the care I received was excellent.

I visited the MFAU once prior to labour and also received excellent care.

I had a smooth labour and was discharged a few hours after our baby was born.

I really struggled with breastfeeding and my baby wasn't able to latch at all after 2 weeks. I made an appointment at the Breastfeeding Clinic at Agnes Walsh House and Sharon immediately recognised what the issue was and since then I have been able to transition to breastfeeding.

If I hadn't gone to the clinic I probably would have given up on breastfeeding and exclusively pumped and bottle-fed my baby. Very grateful for the support I have received and ongoing appointments to check in on our progress.

Dear phoenixqz49,

I would like to extend my congratulations to you and your family on the birth of your child. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Women and Newborn Health Service. I am pleased to hear of the quality care you received by our midwives and staff during your pregnancy and birthing journey.

I am happy to read that Sharon and the Women and Newborn Health Service (WNHS) Breastfeeding Centre were a great support after the initial challenges you experienced. The Breastfeeding Centre has made a great positive difference in the postnatal care we are able to provide to women experiencing breastfeeding issues.

Thank you for sharing your story and we will be sure to send your appreciative comments to all the staff involved, with special thanks to Sharon.

I wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Kind regards

Jodi Graham
