"Surprise stay at Fiona Stanley Hospital"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Acute Surgical Unit and Trauma Department Fiona Stanley Hospital / Breast Service & Ward 6A Fiona Stanley Hospital / Emergency Department Fiona Stanley Hospital / Urology

(as a service user),

Thank you to the nursing and medical teams who cared for me during my surprise stay at FSH recently.

The ED staff were amazing in taking my excruciating pain seriously, and understanding that given I had experienced this before, my differential diagnosis was likely the one I suggested.

The Acute Surgical Unit was wonderful in keeping me calm during a MET call (even while I knew all that was going on as I am a medic).

Finally, the nurses on 6A (especially Nadine and Tash, but everyone was great, even if I can’t remember your name) and the Urology team who I was admitted under, ensured good communication (even when that was “we don’t know yet”), ensuring my pain was well controlled, care with hun our, and providing me dignity by including me in decision making.

Dear novemberwk53,

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to provide such lovely feedback regarding your care.

Being a medic I am sure you understand the pressure our ED is constantly under. I know that our staff really do provide the best care they can, and to receive positive reinforcement and confirmation of that from a patient is always welcome. I have shared your feedback with the ED team.

The Acute Surgical Unit are also grateful for your feedback and provided me with the following response: “thank you for the positive feedback – it is greatly appreciated as the Acute Surgical Unit and Ward 6A staff strive to deliver the best patient care at all times”.

I trust that you are recovering well. Thank you once again, and I wish you all the best for the future.

Kind regards,

Neil Doverty
