"I am still waiting for an EEG appointment"

About: Prince of Wales Hospital / ASB Level 8 - Neurosciences Ward

(as the patient),

I had a TGA recently and stayed in the emergency department overnight, I had a CT scan and MRI, moved to 6 South ward for 3 hours and then discharged.

My doctor (whom I haven’t seen personally) I believe was supposed to organise an EEG at POW, I called to ask why it hasn’t been done yet and the person on the phone told me they would send a reminder. I cannot drive until I get this exam and get clearance, I have to take my sick parent to their appointments and it is being very difficult to do this without driving.

I was told that they are very busy, but in my opinion, making that arrangement shouldn’t be that hard, I wish I could organise my own appointment and not having to depend on and bother busy hospital staff, after all, I have the letter from the specialist.

Update posted by filingqw86 (the patient)

Thanks,

I had my GP fax the request to POW (the nurse at the medical centre tried again and talked to two different staff at another hospital and apparently it was still waiting, the nurse let them know what we were going to do and they were OK with it since a week had passed already and I believe nobody knew what was going on). I got finally an appointment in three weeks, I have to wait so I can be allowed to drive (hopefully).

Maybe for future situations, I feel the person's GP should be given that job as an alternative especially if that involves a different hospital or external provider.

I am a proactive person, but I believe there are people who have limited resources to take care of themselves. I feel it's easy to fall through the cracks.
